This is a list of similar software to this project that already exists that I have at least taken a look at but does not quite fulfill all requirements. This will enable everyone to get a better idea of what I am hoping to achieve with this project.
I have not included any of the hosted software such as League Republic, Team Expert and Sport Manager or any paid for software that I have not looked at like LeagueWorks as I cannot comment on their functionality or whether they would cover what I hope to achieve.

LTRACK (www.ngthomas.co.uk/ltrack.html)
This is an amazing piece of free software that I have been using for around ten years and even by setting up this project I feel that I am betraying an old friend!!
It is developed by one person in his spare time and I have often emailled him with suggestions and he always takes the time to reply to them. Over the years I have used it, the program has simply got better and better.
There are only two things missing from it that I would like - the ability to track multiple leagues/multiple seasons and the ability to create fully interactive web pages. If these were implemented then I would not even be trying to launch this project!
Unfortunately, the author has said that although the multiple season feature was something he would put in if he could go back and start again, it would actually mean starting again as the software is too long in the tooth to be able to implement it.
The best features of it is the query function as you can create a lot of custom queries and export them to spreadsheets, as well as the pure simplicity of its use. Although you can only track one league at a time you can also track any number of other competitions and any number of teams so Cup games can also be tracked.

LEAGUE PAD (www.leaguepad.com/ )
This is a programme that I paid for simply for a small handful of statistics that LTrack does not provide but it is restricted in a lot more ways.
You can only, realistically, track one league and no cup competitions in one file. Although there does seem to be suport for Cup games, if you add a team to a Cup competition that is in a different league, it adds it to your league as well.
The two advantages that it has over LTrack is that there are a lot more custom-made statistics and it does export entire web sites (although not very customisable) but the custom query function is nowhere near as good as LTrack.
Between the two of them, data entry is better in some areas in one than the other. In about 95% of the areas LTrack wins it (especially when it comes to adding a player to a team during match data entry - Ltrack takes you straight to the relevant team to add the player but in LeaguePad you have to navigate to the team, which causes players to be added in the wrong place) but LeaguePad is just slightly better for adding goalscorers, goal times and cards.
A message on their web site suggests that the project is now dead but a trial version is still vailable from 3d2f .

STATFOOT32 (www.cellard.com/statfoot32eng.htm)
I bought this software a number of years back simply because of the feature to compare statistics between two teams over a number of years but it was very restricted at the time and I have not tried in for quite a while. I have just downloaded the shareware version and it has crashed every time that I have tried to use it so cannot update my view!
One of the things I seem to recall is that you could export graphical statstics such as graphs and charts.

PROFESSIONAL LEAGUE ( www.ligaverwaltung.de)
This is probaly the nearest thing that there is to what I am trying to achieve. I say probably because I spent weeks trying to get it installed and when I finally did so, in the root of C: as it failed to install anywhere else, it told me my thirty day trial was over and I had also use my extra 15 uses!
Looking through the features on the site and also some of the links to sites using it (Under References) such as www.scgrueneheide.de it does seem to just about cover everything that you would need, including creating fully interactive web sites.
I have come close to buying it on a couple of occasions but really could not justify the money, especially as I never managed to actually get the trial to work. Also it does seem that there is little control on how the exported data is presented, other than some colour formatting and the information seems to be presented in a different way to the way I would need them..

TPL SOCCERSTATS/SOCCERSITE (www.tpl-design.com)
This was another promising looking piece of software that has unfortunately ceased development. There were two versions, SoccerStats aimed at just providing the backend for a fully interactive site and Soccersite which was a complete web site solution. At 95 and 120 I can only assume that the prices caused a lack of purchases and therefore a lack of interest.
There are a few sites that do use it and a Dundee United supporters site is a very good example of its features. The one downside was that it was restricted in the data that it could present. There is a lot of data that would be input to provide the statistics that it does but a lot more could have been extracted.

There are a couple more similar to that that seem to have stopped development. PHP Competition looks as though it may have been very good but the demo does not use all the features. There are also a couple of past SourceForge projects that look as though they may have been similar but do not seem to still be in development, PHP Football and PHP MySport.

There is one more area where similar software has been used but I have not looked in to them too much as they are specifically for Content Management Systems. They do, however, seem to provide most of the functionality but these would mean having to install the relevant CMS. JoomLeague is developed for Joomla and NukeLeague, for PHP-Nuke, which also started life on SourceForge but appears to be discontinued.
